Selfridges Land Rover Collaboration

We were delighted when Selfridges approached us with a unique and exciting challenge – to get a specially commissioned bespoke Land Rover Defender V8 onto the first floor of Selfridge’s flagship Oxford Street store, to form a spectacular centrepiece for their new-look menswear department.

After surveying the site, Outback Rigging formulated a plan to construct a large platform outside the building, bridging to a removed window, through which the vehicle could be led. Liaising closely with Jaguar Land Rover, we determined how best to elevate the vehicle, ultimately using a crane to carefully raise it to the level of the platform.

The entire project was a huge success as within a 10-hour timeframe, we were able to successfully execute the plan, deconstruct the structure and make this unique collaborative exhibit possible.

This “Selfridges Edition” Defender Works V8 is to be constructed by Land Rover technicians, in front of shoppers throughout October, to celebrate Land Rover’s 70th anniversary, and is the most powerful Defender Works ever produced. Once completed, it will be protectively covered, to be revealed upon Selfridges new menswear department opening on October 29th.
